Hakodate by Bike: architectural drawings

“Hakodate is a small city located on a peninsula off the northern island of Japan. In the 18th century, it was once a center of trade and commerce—but the city has since quieted, and now only the eclectic smattering of foreign Russian candy shops and Greek orthodox churches hint at the more international Hakodate of the past.

I spent the summer of 2015 collecting Hakodate’s churches and temples into this small, hand-bound book, ‘Hakodate wo Gitensha de,’ or ‘Hakodate by Bike.’ The small girl in red is “Shizuko-chan”: a visitor who explores the city and its architecture by bike.”
